Applique Turned Edges Short Cut Method Coloring Pages

Applique turned edges short cut method coloring pages. This first method just turns under a small seam allowance all the way round the edge of the appliqué shape. Stitch the shapes in place sewing about ⅛-¼ from the edges. Carefully poke out any curves or points until the shape is completely turned.

When sewing the pieces together keep your original trace to make sure the pieces are perfectly aligned. Very similar to freezer paper and starch is a turned edge using a leave in foundation. Place a piece of parchment paper or an applique pressing sheet on top of this so that your iron will never touch the template.

Fabric paint or stitching are common methods to finish the edges of the appliqué. Cut out the appliqué shapes in the finished size and arrange them on the background fabric. Its so easy to make your own applique patterns using images that you find in coloring books or on the internet.

With your iron on a cotton setting without steam and an up-and-down motion press this unit until the glue is dry. With template on wrong side of fabric apply starch to seam allowance and press toward back of template. Top stitch around the edge to attach the applique.

Cut out the applique piece with a 14 inch seam allowance all around the edges. Start by tracing your design and then cutting out the individual pieces. You can read the tutorial for this method here.

Alternative method to turn applique edges is using interfacing. Once your pieces are secure straight stitch or zig zag stitch around the edges to completely secure it in place. Also you can add drawing details if you want.

If you have left a wide seam allowance you can do the turning with your fingers without getting burned. Trace the design onto the right side of the fabric. Barbara loves to use serrated edge scissors by Karen Kay Buckley for this step.

Use stitching to draw any lines and other details in the fabric. This is my favorite type of interfacing to use for making appliqués. Trace appliqué shape onto wrong side of fabric using template.

Turned edge appliqué The previous two methods leave the edges raw. Spray the wrong side of each shape with temporary spray adhesive arranging and smoothing them into place on the background fabric.

If you are being more economical with your fabric or you are clumsy use a stiletto That Purple Thang or bamboo skewer to hold the turned seams as you press them. Arrange the appliqué piece onto another piece of fabric and following the fusible webbing packaging instructions iron it on top of the other fabric to fuse it in place. Fold the seam allowance to the wrong side.

The final result is a nice flat. Cut through the freezer paper and fabric on the traced line leaving the freezer paper attached for stability and to preserve its identification. Make sure to bend it the way you want first and then crease it for a smooth finish.

These next two turn under the edges so they are finished which avoids problems with frayed edges. Use your favorite decorative stitch or simply straight line stitch. Have fun experimenting with different color thread stitch widths and more.
